Aussie Dodge Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 I live in Australia & have recently purchased a 1948 Dodge Business coupe. My problem is the lip at the bottom of the trunk seal area has rusted away and I don't know what it looked like originally. This is the section that protrudes outward across the bottom. Does any one have some photos or better still some measurements? Unfortunately I don't have access to a reference vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards, Glen Quote
casper50 Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Aussie I'm at work now and have jury duty in the morning. I have a 47 b coupe that I can take measurements from tomorrow. 1 Quote
Aussie Dodge Posted February 10, 2014 Author Report Posted February 10, 2014 Hello Casper. Thank you for the quick reply. That would be fantastic! Regards, Glen Quote
busycoupe Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 My 48 Dodge coupe has the rubber seal applied incorrectly to the body, rather than to the trunk lid. However, as you can see in the photo the rolled edge is about a cm wide. The depth of the overhang under the edge, where my rubber seal sits, is a little less. About a 1/4 inch or 6 mm. I hope that this helps. Dave B. 1 Quote
Aussie Dodge Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 Thanks, Dave! That is a huge help. The next trick will be making it! Regards, Glen Quote
Andydodge Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Glen, that area is basically the same on all 1940-48 mopar coupes whether 3 or 5 window style body shell....my 1941 Plymouth Coupe was identical with the horizontal piece across the back making a channel there..........as I have sold the car I can't go and be 100% certain but that area appears to be the same as what mine had........dunno if this helps.........checkout ebay listings to see any trunk pics..........andyd 1 Quote
casper50 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 My calipers say .514 in inches Quote
busycoupe Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 I think that we measured different pieces. I measured the small rolled edge that is just above the piece in your picture. Between us we have the situation covered! Quote
casper50 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 hopefully one of us answered his question. Quote
casper50 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Aussie post some photos of your coupe. Never tire of looking at 3 window coupes. Quote
Aussie Dodge Posted February 11, 2014 Author Report Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) Hi Dave & Casper there isn't much difference between both measurements so I am sure you both measured correctly. 12.5mm = .5 inch so I will go with that. Thanks again Fellers! Regards, Glen PS. I will post more images of my 3 window coupe soon. Edited February 11, 2014 by Aussie Dodge Quote
