I am aware of heater/AC units. I only want a very good heater / defroster. I remember Nebraska winters and the heaters were just OK until Nash introduced the first frest air heater. So the question is what works?

Paul, I have seen a heater/defroster only unit from Vintage Air, Part #s 50515-VUH($165), 50615-VUH($199), 50616-VUZ($249) You can download the installation instructions and wiring diagram from the web page as well. These are "universal" fit kits. I am considering one of these for my truck as the old unit was of the 6 volt variety and I'm switching to 12 volt. Hope this gives you some idea of what's out there. I'm sure there are others as well.

Here's their link.

pflaming;

Do you plan on driving your vehicle in the harsh California winters?

You could always use a factory correct heater, and just replace the 6V fan motor with a 12V model. I have one or two of the Model 36 heaters that I picked up on eBay. I cleaned one up and repainted it with Hammerite paint, and sold it on eBay for good money. There are some pretty cool art-deco look heaters out there.

When the truck is back to daily driver status, I will drive it out to Indianapolis, IN where our daughter is the excutive secretary to the Art Institute of Indiana. She will get the truck, so a good heater is needed. I had a 61 Dodge which she drove to college in Santa Barbara, CA. It was a hit on campus and she still regrets giving it back to me, so this is my way of evening the score.

Will check out Vintage Air.
