eric wissing Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Here's a Desoto on Ebay item# 320119096069, with one in it. A little work needed? Eric Quote
Johnny 5 Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 Shouldn't be a big problem. Desotos are my favourite early hemi - not too big, not too small. Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 Eric The De Soto V8 and transmission is an good exhange from the ebay car. It has the wiring to shift the M-6 transmission. The extra power from the V8 over your six will make you want to deliver Pizzia's to test it out. NAPA Auto Parts even have an two in ( aka V8 ) and single out muffler that is waiting for ya. You will not need the power steering pump unit on the epay car. Rodger & Gabby COS 1947 S-11 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 The early hemi is one awesome looking machine..introduced as 180 HP and continued in production through the 57-58 392 raised block design with 390 HP output. One as visioned in the early 50's sedan though is fewer HP than a sequential fuel injected Dodge 3.9 V8 which is 185 HP (1994) and a whole lot more weight..but to say...yeah its a HEMI means everything to a showboat versus good econimical maintainable engine the V6 will yield. With this engine and the fact that fewer parts are available..and if found are very high...does not make this an economical swap...but again..it is one beautiful work of art. Quote

eric wissing Posted May 27, 2007 Author Report Posted May 27, 2007 Don, I was wondering that and it sort of answers some questions I have seen here about sticking V8s in these cars. Way beyond my skills. I like them with the 6, goes fast as I would want it to. One of the responders I think is the seller. I really have no interest in buying it. Now it might be a good project for the right person. Eric Quote

Rodger S-11 Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Eric I, like a couple of other vintage era MoPar owners like the ideal of using the better opt'd De Soto engine over the Crashlier's much heavier 331 long block, 331 improved 2nd series, 354 or their 392. The De Soto V8 will bolt up to any of the era MoPar transmissions ( as will all other era MoPar's too ). Since the car is an Plymouth, I would much rather see an 2 bbl, oil bath air cleaner 1955 Plymouth Poly V8 under the hood ... if it is an vintage Plymouth. If not try using an OEM 2 bbl flat head six carb of an later year. Rodger & Gabby S-11 COS Quote
