Can A 1939 Plymouth 201 Be Used In A Hot Rod?

.79 is not much of an overdrive considering that you actually are probably splitting OD with 5th....anyone find the actual ratios of the tranny?  Of course..the rear gear plays a lot into this..could be it is also a rather high ratio coupled with this tranny so the rear gear can be used in a multitude of platforms.

5th is 1:1

Thank you.

5th is 1.1...you doing a lot of useless shifting with that tranny....and the.79 is not the better deal OD gearing...

do yourself a favor..list what you have now in gears and final drive and engine powering it...

list what you want to go to as far a final gear and engine powering it..

select tranny from there....free does not make it the better deal I am afraid....

close ratio does not make it the better tranny either as the flattie would better perform with the wide ratio and OD of the T5 allowing you to benefit of a taller rear gear at the same time for better top end cruise and fuel mileage

Yes - Engineer.  A good one always asks what's available first.  Yes - Machine Shop.

As an 'old' engineer, I wonder just how much time you have spent looking at your pile-o-parts before asking the initial questions.

A 'good' engineer might ask about existing technology but, just perhaps, a 'better' engineer might have done more investigating first.

So, does the M38 have an integral bell? And the input shaft length is...?

And for the rest of the crew, some trans info. No pictures showing up yet...

Thanks to Wiki for the chart

IMHO, a giant waste of time when decent 5-speeds are readily available without the luxury car label...
