First question is why.  Why go to all of the expense? So how many times do you have to take a wheel off your car it should not be that often????

If the treads are stripped then I can see doing the conversion.

I recall sitting in the waiting room of a tire dealership getting new tires for my car. There were several customers also waiting. A customer service represenative entered the room and spoke to one of the customers telling him that his wheel studs were stripped and in need of replacement. The customer ask how that happened and the service rep stated that wheel studs frequently wear out over time. This in my opinion is a blatent lie. Studs strip because the bozo using the zip gun screwed up. I would have walked out at that time if the work on my car had not been started. I will never return to that tire dealership.

If you aren't taking your car to a shop that handles antiques, it is worth the conversion. The tire monkeys generally have no idea that older Mopars have driver side reverse thread wheel fasteners. And you can tell them until you turn blue, they won't listen, until they have broken off several near impossible to replace reverse thread lug bolts. And if you somehow got the drums swapped side for side on one axle, it gets even more "entertaining"...

Side benefits of the conversion? A whole lot easier to run an alloy wheel for the days when "stock won't do". Lose a fastener, ANY auto parts store has generic 1/2-20 lug nuts in open end plain steel or closed end chrome. Even Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply and Ace Hardware carry lug nuts locally...

Switching them out is cheap insurance.

I would like to convert my 50 Plymouth from lug bolts to studs.  Anyone done this or have any ideas?

Very easy to do. First go buy 20 of these...

Dorman products

Then drill out the threads on your drums, I used a 1/2 inch drill bit. Place the studs in from the back, put two washers on the stud and a lug nut and torque it down tight...

Viola. do that 19 more times and you're done.
