homebrewer Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Does any one know the correct orientation of the bumper bolts on a 48 P15. Since they are oval shaped, are they supposed to be up and down or sideways? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 sideways on bumper. I think also sideways on bumper guards. It appears that I have put my bolts on the guards up & down. So, which way is original (right)? Quote
homebrewer Posted May 18, 2007 Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 Well thats the way mine are oriented also, Which is why I asked the question. I wasn't sure if if the guards or the bumper bolts were installed in correctly. But I guess they are done properly unless someone else on the forum corrects us. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 In the 1930s the bumper bolts went on vertically. The head of the bolt actual has a curve on it that matches the vertical shape of the bumper. Seems like tradition would have kept the orientation the same into the 1940s but I am far from an expert on that. . . Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Not sure vertical would work so hot on the 40s stuff, due to curvature of the bumper. Here's a tip about re-chroming bumper bolts.....my chrome guy told me to remove the stainless cover on the bolt head, then he would chrome the actual head. Looked just fine to me. Those stainless covers get pretty beat up after years of abuse. Quote
