W.F. Brown- III Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I try to drive my '48 Plymouth once a week (weather permitting) for five or ten miles. If I cant drive her, I at least go out and start the car once or twice a week and let it run for a while. Given this, what would be the expected service life of a 6 volt battery? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I am on my second battery since 1995. TSC tractor battery around $50, I think last time I bought one. Sometimes I only use the car once or twice a week, sometines more. I have a 6V neg.grnd alternator. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I've been buying my 6V batteries from a local business called Battery Warehouse. Don't know who makes them as they put on their own name tag. They seem to last 3 to 5 years with occasional driving of the car. I bought a "battery tender" type charger to use during the winter months.....will see if that helps. The batteries this place sells cost about $60 or 65 bucks....with trade in. Quote

I got the bigger battery and has been good many years. In the winter, I charge the battery once each month with a 2 amp charger. On my cycle, (Goldwing), I buy Interstates, that last 10 years. I started buying Interstates for my cars now. I have not had much good luck with Exides that are made near here, 2 to 3 years use.... Quote
greg g Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 my battery needed replacement this spring. I was a little upset because I thought the one in the car was fairly recent. when I pulled it to take in as a core, the manufacturers date code sain 4/05. so I guess I should be happy that I got 6 + years, and suprised that time flew by that fast. I usually go to the local Exide warehouse, and inquire about 2nds. These are either batteries with defects in the case, or those that are returned to the warehouse after sitting on a retailers shelf in excess of their freshness date. I have never gotten less that 3 years out of one, and they are usually half of the retail price. We also have an interstate warehouse in town and I have gotten batteries for garden tractors from them also blems of 2nds, neve had a problem withe them either. Quote
