greg g
I's would go with a slightly warmed 318 maybe some compression enhancement and a good 2bbl. dual exhaust, maybe an rv cam. With an OD torqueflite. Had a Dodge 150 Conversion van set up that way, think it had a 2.73 rear end. It consistantly got 17 to 18 MPG on regular. NIced relaxed cruising and sufficient power for towing and hills. I think the /6 would be taxed so much it would probably give worse milage and have less power. Of course a good 360 would also work, but milage drops to 13 to 14. My sister in law has a Pleasure Way Class B motor home on a Dodge 250 Van chassis with the 360. I don't think there was much of a difference in my conversion van and her's in terms of performance but her's iss definately thirstier. BobT-47P15
Hi Christopher. Back in 1968 when I acquired a job as a sales rep with a tobacco manufacturer, I inherited a 67 Plymouth with a 318 in it. That sure seemed like a good engine.....I rather abused it, even ran it mostly out of water one time, and it kept on ticking. Don't recall the gas mileage, but seemed OK. (I actually never checked it as they paid for gas.) It would get up and go pretty good, too. So--my experience with a 318 was good. In reading ads and comments by assorted people, it seems some are using a 318 in older MoPars nowadays. My couple cents worth. Bob
Olddaddy
I'm installing a slant/6 in my 50 Plymouth wagon. It will require massaging the firewall some, but not much. It's really a toss up between the slant/6 and a 318. I prefer inline engines, and a slant/6 is my favorite of them all. It was an easy choice for me. I'd steer clear of a 273 or 340/360. All good motors, but the 273 is not nearly as good as a 318 for the same money. A 340/360 will be more costly and less fuel economy etc. You can't beat either of the slant/6 or 318 engines in my opinion.
