Pearsebln Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Hi, I have a 48 desoto whit fluid drive and tip toe shift transmission I can easy shift into the high gear and in reverse, But when i try to shift in the low gear its very difficult. I have to shift in high gear let the car roll a while and then shift fast in the low gear.... A friend of mine has the same whit a 50' desoto fluid drive. Is it a known problem? Someone has already find the cause for that problem? Thank u Greatings from germany Olaf Edited November 8, 2012 by Pearsebln Quote
Tom Skinner Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Olaf, I think its a Linkage problem. I'm trying to load a picture of an adjustment that can be made. Tom Quote
Tom Skinner Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Olaf, I can't upload the picture. Tom Quote
Pearsebln Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Hi tom Thank u for trying to help me Heres my email, mabe u can send me the pic on my adress... pearsebln@googlemail.com Olaf Quote
Tom Skinner Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Olaf, I have sent you an email. If one goes to: www.imperialclub.com then choose say 1948 then service/technical booklets then look for transmission fundamentals. This will explain the Linkage adjustment I sent you. Tom Quote
Pearsebln Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Hi om I think this is for the 3peed transmission But i have the tip toe automatik (power range 1+2/drive range 3+4) Olaf Quote
greg g Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Have you tried to shift into the low range position with the engine off??? Shut of the engine, put the lever in place for low range and then with the clutch pushed in start the car and see if it will move. It might be as simple as the linkage from the lever to the trans needing adjusting. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Greg, I sent Olaf a personal email with that adjustment nut shown. I guess he hasn't put his hood up yet, as it is the linkage adjustment that he needs. This is by your steering column under the hood Olaf. The Transmission Service booklet it is out of is as Olaf has stated "for a three speed" however that adjustment is on my Fluid Drive also. So when Olaf gets around to it he will be able to try the adjustment we are prompting him to do? Tom Quote
Pearsebln Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Hi tom hi greg I oil'd the shift lever and the columb, I loosen the steering columb and shift in all gears, After tighten the screws,i can shift in low range... Its a new drive feeling, now i can use the power range to. Nice...... Thank u for help Olaf Quote
Pearsebln Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 By the way, There is many end play in the linkage There is a cross linkage( is it the right word.....dont know:o) Bolt on the transmission Its very loose in his bolt. I think i have to uverhaul this part.... Quote
greg g Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Taking all that free play out will help alot. If it is easy to get the linkage rods out, sometimes welding the holes closed then redrilling for the correct size, machen so gut wie neu. Das macht mich glücklich das defekt aber nicht internen. (Ist das richtig?) Quote
Tom Skinner Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Olaf, I'm glad it worked out for you. By the way the picture I tried to upload on here was way too big after I scanned it. Thats why it wouldn't load. Tom Quote
