crosleykook Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 I've been thinking of buying a 30's -40's runner since the '52 wagon is still a ways from being on the road. I've been watching ebay, hemmings, etc, and the prices are all over the place! Maybe some of this is the difference between 'asking' price and actual sale. I found the Gold Book online, http://www.manheimgold.com/car_lo.html and the prices seem pretty accurate on the cars I own, but the asking prices I'm seeing for old MOPARs are way above their listings. Recent examples: 1936 plymouth Business coupe, decent original driver, 95,000 original miles. asking $18,000. Gold Book says something like $7-8000 1937 Dodge rumble seat coupe, driver, nice exterior, interior a bit rough. asking $9,000. Gold Book says around $5-7000 From watching ebay, the Gold book looks to be the more 'real' value, but then, I'm always amazed at what old cars go for these days. Anybody have an opinion on the Gold Book or on old MOPAR prices in general? thanks-- Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 it is only a guide line...value and worth are determined on case by case study with only an average assumed ..some areas are high, some lower...don't ever overlook the fact that a high price car is not always a high price car but mearly an overpriced bondo bandit....with pasteboard floorpans and the ole POR15 coating...with the Barrett Jackson mentality running rampant..one must find realistic persons/vehicles for deal consideration. Reg Evans Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 I bought this 38 Dodge business coupe last Jan for $6600. It has a freshly rebuilt 52 230 engine and is a good driver but it needs new upholstery, paint, some glass, brake work, electrical and tires. The body is in excellent shape though. I think I stole it. crosleykook Posted May 11, 2007 Author Report Posted May 11, 2007 Man oh man.. I think you did, too. nice car! I was pretty taken with the 37 coupe until I started thinking about how useless the rumble seat would be in everyday use. That giant trunk in the bizzy coupes must come in handy. I'm assuming that business coupes would be more desirable (higher $) than rumble seat coupes for that reason? Quote
blueskies Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 ...I found the Gold Book online... gulp... I have my car insured for about $10k more than what they say mine is worth in show condition... Pete Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Yep, they've been watching too much B-J on the speed channel. They seem to think any old car in halfway shape is worth 10 grand or some such. I would probably buy some additional old car if I could find one at a reasonable price....(reasonable to me, of course). Quote

Actually, the coupes with the rumble seat will cost you more most of the time because they are more popular. Quote
