IanT_Qld Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Went for that Test drive today, 66km. (the longest run so far) Took wife and got Coffee and galati, nice day all up. Truck went well. no leaky fuel. Crused comfortably at 50mph (I thought). Didn't push it tyres are old. Is it normal to use the choke to control idle when cold? (I havent had a carbie car since 1991). I rebuilt my carbie and adjusted idle for a warm motor. Is it normal for cross ply tyres to "skirm?" about when driving? It was less noticable on good roads, but crap roads the truck sort of jumped around abit. Wife kept telling me to slow down. Anyway it was a good day I wanted to share. Desotodav Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Good job Ian. It's about time that you and your old truck terrified other road users !!! I find that the choke control depends on the truck. It is a little colder where your truck is down at the farm so I would expect that you would have to use the choke for a little while until the engine warms up. I also find that my ply tyres track a little on crappy roads. Radials would certainly make for better steering. It all depends on what you are wanting for your truck. I take it that you have sorted those parkers/indicators?.. or are you just relying on the wifey to be the left indicator? Desotodav Quote
IanT_Qld Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 The indicators work, just the parkers don't. Given its day time should be right. As for tyre options, I'll be checking out what others have at the Chrysler Expo Sunday. The tracking issue may also be that I haven't had a wheel alignment done, ever. Quote
Desotodav Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 It's at Mueller College 75 Morris Rd Rothwell. I'll be the one with the shiny blue truck. See ya there! Desotodav Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Nice! You crazy Aussies! I still hope to make a trip down under in a few years and check things out (hopefully go for a few rides as well). Quote
Dan Babb Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Bias Ply tires will ride poorly until they warm up. Even when they warm up, they do kinda suck compared to a nice radial tire. An alignment will help. I had the toe adjusted by a local shop and it made a huge difference (and I have radials). Make sure all the springs and hangers are greased up too...that will help with the ride a lot. Glad you got your wife in for a ride...mine hates it. Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 [quote=IanT_Qld; .... Is it normal to use the choke to control idle when cold? ....[uNQUOTE] Use the hand throttle to control idle when cold . You might need a little choke too . Quote
IanT_Qld Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 Unfortunately i don't a throttle cable, got the nob but no cable. Dan, my suspension is nice and "subtle", well its all greased. I have over-riders on the rear, after new tyres and an alignment i will trial a few different settings, no overriders, remove a leave that sort of thing. Quote
