Anyone need a 218 head, or a '50 front bumper?

Moving again, and I'm not sure why I'm still dragging around this stuff...

I have a good head, removed from my running 218 when I replaced with with a finned aluminum head.

Also have a nice front '50 bumper, a nearly perfect grill, and a good 218 flywheel.

See attached pics, and let me know if you want any of this stuff... If not, it's going on ebay...

Thanks for the note Andy, good to hear from you. We are doing fine. Back to tinkering on stuff, we are building a '53 Willys wagon for my son Joseph. He's just getting started, but hopes to have it roadworthy by the time he gets his drivers license.

Time has flown... he was 2 when i started my Plymouth project... and now ten years later...

What would you be asking for the stuff? Im in NY so it would have to be shipped too.

Make me an offer I can't refuse...

I paid $125 for the grill ten years ago.

I sold the rear bumper that was in worse condition a few years ago for $75. This one is pretty nice, hoping to get $100.

No idea what the head and flywheel are worth...

Shipping will be $$$ from 83333, all this stuff is heavy. Bumper is 20lbs, head is 40lbs, flywheel is around 40lbs. Grill isn't heavy, but will be in a big box...

Hi Pete. Joseph sure has grown. So, where are you moving to?

Or perhaps more grammatically correct==to where are you moving?

Hi Bob... sorry for the late reply, for some reason I no longer get email notifications for topic replies.

We are just moving a few blocks, from a rental to a house that we are buying. When the architecture world collapsed a couple of years ago, I sold my house (along with my Plymouth) to survive. Things are picking up again, and found a good deal on a decent place, so we are back in the home-ownership game.

It is moving all the same though, which sucks no matter how you slice it... especially since we will be moving the last week of November, likely in the snow. I was hoping to do it this month, but no...

I was thinking about the grille and maybe the bumper. My grille has a dent in it too. Probably not worth having it shipped to NY

My experience with removing 49 and 50 ply. grilles is not very good!

I've found that the mounting studs regularly break when tried to removed. Many times the steel plate breaks off from the grille before the nut can be removed.

Big problem is the steel mount plates that are only spot welded to the Stainless steel grille and use regular Soft steel studs for mounting. No brass nuts or stainless studs or stainless mounting plates.

Try to remove yours without breaking one or the other. Have now learned the hard way to do whatever it takes to to soak the bolts/nuts for a good while before even trying! Work slowly.

A grille with only 1 dent and 1 broken mount plate can be hard to find.

I learned after multiple tries buying a grille off ebay to learn to post questions about the mount plates and studs. Almost ALL have some Major ploblems with the mounting points.

I have a good collection of grilles for 49 ply. with varing amounts of broken stubs or broken off plates REASONABLE, If anyone is interested?!

I wanted to change to a 49 grille on my 50 Suburban and now have a Ebay bought ,big collection of grilles that need repairs!

Finally bought a Ebay NOS 49 grille for High dollars that still needs a complete buffing out!

Pete's doesn't look too bad! Price is good.

Remove yours first and then see!

Greyhound Express Ship?? WAS very reasonable compared to other methods for larger packages and actually faster than the others.

Something to think about.

Best,

Doug

Doug- you are right about the mounting points. I bought three grills for my '50 trying to find one good one. Wound up using my original which was better than all the others.

The one I have left isn't perfect, but other than the dent and one missing mount bolt, it is very nice. The missing mount bolt isn't in a critical point, I think it could be used as is.

I can take pics of all the mounting points, if anyone wants them

Good luck with the moving Pete. I know it's no fun.

We didn't have any big furniture left to move after the tornado,

but have replaced things piece at a time into the new house.

I still have a mini storage unit full of smaller stuff, including

a bunch of my old car things and tools to bring home.....most

of it will go into the new detached garage they just recently

finished. Will have to get all new shelves to boot as the old

ones all got messed up. Thinking I may use some metal frame

units from Sam's Club that sell for about 60 bucks or so. You

can either configure them as one tall shelf or taller/shorter side

by side. Probably just as cheap as buying wood to build my own.

Have one already---using in the storage unit.

Bob, just replace the chip board they come with with 3/4" plywood. I have the 2'x4'x6' or two 2'x4'x3' units and with time the chip board deforms with the weight and falls through the frame. I have had to replace all of mine, first a toolbox full of tools fell through then the table size drill press and it continued from there. You might paint them with a good oil base paint to prevent them from taking on moisture and they might last longer.
