Robert Smith Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 I located on FeeBAY the rare lock for the glove box door complete with two keys! It was a buy it now for $44. bucks and I didn't even blink! It came last Monday and it fits right... Yet, just a little lose... I'm thinking originally there would have been a clip or some kind of retainer ring that would have held it in place on the back side of the door. Any '40 Dodge owners who could provide a photo of the opposite side of the glove box door for me would be very helpful. Thanks! Quote
Young Ed Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Any pictures of it? I'm wondering if it might look/be the same as the 39-47 dodge truck glove box lock. I've never even seen a picture of one of those. Quote
claybill Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 i'lll look. i have 2 41 ply should be the same. i also have 1-2 locks.. bill Quote
Don St Peter Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 I will send you a pic of my glove box button and attachment when I figure out how to attach a pic from my I pad to this site Don Quote
claybill Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 on my plymouth 1941.....there are only 2 screws on the back threading into the back of the comp door. pretty simple no room for a washer to do anything. maybe you ahve a different set-up. bill Quote
Robert Smith Posted September 12, 2012 Author Report Posted September 12, 2012 Gentlemen, I appreciate the cooperation. Yet, I'm afraid by '41 the locks changed significantly. In '39-40 it was a larger round disk with a large button lock than the '41 models. In '41 it was smaller and not as large. I'll post a photo tonight when I have the chance. Thanks! Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Robert, do you have a screw hole on the bottom back of your glovebox latch assy? That's what holds the latch assy in on a '40 ply. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Here's mine off of the '40 ply- That one screw holds the rear sleeve on, that holds the latch assy in place..has an indexing slot in the glovebox door that matches the latch assy. Hope this helps you in some way. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 What does that indexing slot look like? The glovebox door for my truck has a flat on 2 sides. Quote

Mark D Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Bought a replacement glove box lock for my car on ebay last winter. Took the old one out, installed the new one, and it works great. Recently decided to try the new key in the old lock and beleive it or not the key worked. The key is labeled Yale and has the number 189d stamped on it. Quote

Which isn't bad mind you, just an interesting difference between Dodge and Plymouth for 1940. I do have a hole at the back of the lock, yet it's missing the screw. So, if I find the screw then I'll be able to tighten it up and hold in place. :-) Thanks for that photo, it helped! =R Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 So long as you have the outer sleeve that the screw holds down, your in business....yeah, seems the plymouth end got the plastic knobs...I've got some turned aluminum for most of them, it's just these that'll mess with me.{ash tray knobs and this one} Glad I could help...that's what we're/I'm here for.
