40desoto Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I would think it would blow thru after a while. Is the tank clean? I just found out that the previous owner used a sealant to seal the tank. The fuel is redish once it goes into the carb? Im wondering if this can cause a problem. What would be the best way to clean out the gas tank? using the old chain method? is so what can I use in there to flush? Quote
52b3b Joe Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Some of the older tank sealers have been known to break down with these modern fuels. Your best bet is to take the tank out and take it to a local shop to have it cleaned and resealed. You could probably have the tank acid dipped then buy a sealer kit and do it yourself if you want to go that route too. In our 41 DeSoto my dad put in one of the red sealers in the tank in the early 80s. So far nothing bad yet, but I'm sure its just a matter of time. Quote
40desoto Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Thank You Joe, I think I am gonna look into taking into a shop and getting it cleaned and re-sealed. Might just be the safest way to go about it. Quote
