Merle Coggins Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 I thought I'd share this with you guys... A couple of weekends ago I attended a couple of car shows, and at both shows this D24 Town Sedan was there. I saw this car at a show a year ago with the same sign in the window. This year I got a chance to chat with the guy a little bit at the Friday evening show, then at the Sunday show he was parked right next to me. His daughter came along with him to that show and we sat and talked for a while. Anyway, as you can see from the window sign, this car was a gift from his kids on his 50th wedding anniversary. Apparently he has been a long time Mopar guy and one of his sons found this car somewhere in Minnesota (I think). It originally belonged to a funeral home and apparently wasn't used much. I remember him telling me that they found a sticker from the late '60's showing it had been serviced with around 1800 miles. Anyway, this guy found it and talked his siblings into all chipping in to purchase the car and fix it up for "Mom & Dad". They brought it home and a couple of the boys worked on it secretly to get it ready. Apparently all it needed was a good tune up, some good gas, and a good cleaning. As far as they know it's the original paint, and the original engine runs like a top. The secret stayed in tact until the day before the big reveal. "Dad" happened to drive past his sons house while out and about delivering parts for his part time job. He saw the car in the driveway, as they were doing a final clean and polish, and turned around to see what it was all about. They ended up letting him in on the suprise, but got him to keep quiet about it to "Mom". The next day at their 50th wedding anniversary party they unveiled it to "Mom & Dad" and he acted suprised. He did admit that even at that point it still didn't seem real. Now they drive it everywhere and fully enjoy the car. It was truely a pleasure talking with him and his daughter about it. Here's a pic from last year's Mopars Under the Lights show Merle Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 Really neat when kids do something like that for their parents. There was a fellow here in Joplin who fixed up a 55 Ford for his father (for his birthday, I think). That story was on the HAMB quite sometime back. Quote
