claybill Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) i wrote a LONG PARAGRAPH BUT DECIDED TO AXE IT AND GO WITH ; what is the best way to tighten up a cable.? today while underneath the car i checked the cable routing...puzzling.! a few hours later, while stirring the coals and ready to drop on a few nice steaks, i remembered.....we swapped out the O/D transmission for a standard 5 years ago....i must be using the O/D cable which would be a few inches longer.!!! so ; 1. need a new shorter cable 2. take this one out and 'try' to shorten it. 3. @!##$@#$%&*$% .....so my conclusion is that the standard and O/D cables are DIFFERENT.! anybody want to trade.? bill Edited August 22, 2012 by claybill add Quote
claybill Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 has anyone had brake cable trouble when they installed an overdrive trans.? bill Quote
DJ194950 Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 No, changed 3 spd. to an OD in 50 Ply. Used the emer. brake cable that came with the car. Cable was not in car(in the trunk). However trans and engine were out when purchased. I have a good emer. brake cable, willing to trade straight accros for the OD trans, I'll pay even pay the shipping;) Try verious routes for the cable, i"m sure that you can find one that works just fine. Best to you, Doug Quote
claybill Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 thanks Doug.....the sheath is ok..i think the cable/wire itself is tooooo long. i'll work on it tomorrow. bill Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 The cable for the OD and regular full length 3 speeds are the same for 1946-54 . The cable for the stubby short WB cars, 1949-52 is a shorter E-brake cable. For your situation not sure whats going on? Bob Quote
claybill Posted August 23, 2012 Author Report Posted August 23, 2012 re-routed, stretched the casing/sheath.. seems to be ok now. Quote
