Randy L Peterson Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 I searched But couldnt find the answer to my question....... I finally got the relief Valve out of the P20 Engine I put in my 1946 P15.. I had too much oil pressure the relief valve was stuck in the block. The one I got out was Hardened and longer then the one that was in the 46 p15 Block.. My question is can I run the softer material shorter valve in my p20 block or should I look for a different valve.. Valve on the Right is the one that was stuck one on left came out of my p15 block.. Thanks.. Randy L Peterson Quote
Roadkingcoupe Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 There are three different springs They allow for different relief pressures They are differentiated by part # and color coded as well. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Is there a reason you cannot use your original plunger? Chuck it up in a drill motor, spin it, and polish it with emery cloth. Re-install it insuring that the spring is intact (not broken) and you should be good to go. Quote
Ed Griffin Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 You did much better retrieving your relief valve than I did on my block. By the time I was done the relief valve was nothing but enough material to make a ring out of. I had to drill it out. As Rkc mentioned there are 3 color coded springs.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 while the plunger may have an outside difference of appearance..the thing is, is the hole in the back for the spring at the same distance from the business end of the valve? Quote
Randy L Peterson Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 I will see if theres a difference in depthwith the valves installed.. The one I got out is now cracked I chucked it up in the Lathe and noticed that when I started to polish it.. I have both my springs are in good condtion. Guess I will put the engine back in the car and give er a whirl.. I ball honed the relieve valve area so I should be good that way.. Randy L Peterson Quote
