47PLYMOUTH HOODLUM Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 What's up y'all! Just joined up!! Heard about this site, thru a member, on the H.A.M.B. Anywho...I have a 47 Plymouth Business Coupe I share with my wife! My wife and I, fell in love with it on first site!! Luckily for us, all the body panels are there and in good (some minor rot spots BUT very workable) shape. Best of all...IT'S COMPLETE!! No searching for body panels! One thing we've quickly discovered...there isn't a supplier (NONE WE HAVE CAME ACROSS ANYWAYS) in the aftermarket and performance. So..I'll have tons of questions from the guys who've completed their cars! I really like this site for my short time being on here -tons of great information. I love information!! Well...that's all I've got for now!! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Welcome. Nice that the car is pretty complete. Was any of the stainless trim included with it? Do you plan to stay with a flathead six, or go to a V8? You might try using the forum search function for answers to basic type questions as they have been asked and answered often in the past. At the same time, feel free to join in and also send in some pictures as progress is made. Bob Quote

However, my wife and I both agree, we like how it sits at present. It has the "look!" We are going to strip the paint to get rid of the glitter the previous owner and his daughter mixed in there. Wow, run on sentence! From there, we are going to paint it hotrod flatz black! My wife is talking about how she wants to paint the grill a dark deep red. We are rodding it out! As for the original 6....we are going to use it UNTIL someone we know, pulls his 8 out! He's got a 318 motor out of a 64 Belvedere, automatic transmission and rear end...all for $600! We drove the car and it's got no issues!!! One thing I really want to do, is upgrade the brakes! I want to convert the fronts to disc. I've been looking for conversion kits WITHOUT having to switch out frames. Then there is of course MORE POWER! Down the road, we want it to be a beast!! I've had my head in my phone reading up on this site. I know I'll have tons of questions to ask! Till then, I will keep reading and learning! Thanks again... Quote
Smokeybear Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Good call on the color, of course I'm a little partial to it myself. Quote
greg g Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Contact Charlie Ackers of this forum (www.rustyhope.com) for disc brake adapters and or split manifolds and dual exhaust adapters. Also member moose fabricates intakes and exhausts from welded tubing. Charlie is in Fla, Moose south of Boston. You can still by Offy dual carb intake manifolds from Summit racing. Quote

I justed wanted to say...I LOVE YOUR COUPE!!! That EXACTLY the look we are going for! I think these cars look sooooo much better, without the bumpers! How are the mirrors at the location you have them at? We are thinking of getting the iron cross mirrors. Just not sure, if we want them mounted on the bottom or top! Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Don't forget, there is a classifieds section here on the forum, Various and sundry parts and/or vehicles are offered along. May not have anything you need, but is another place to look. I also check the classifieds on the HAMB - just put in "1947 Plymouth" or similar so it will bring up related stuff. Quote
rtlsnakedaddy Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Welcome from just a bit North in New Hampshire. I also recently found this site through the HAMB. Great reading and looks like a good group of guys. I'm working on a '54 Windsor and have found some great stuff on here. Erich Quote
Mark D Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Hello and welcome from central Mass! Nice coupe you got there. Best of luck with the transformation! Give a shout if you're ever traveling through the area, and keeo a watch for a meet notice. Us new england guys are going to try to meet at least once a year and share a few beers while we stare at motors. Cheers! Mark Quote

Just not sure, if we want them mounted on the bottom or top! The driver's side is perfect. The passenger side I have to lean over toward the center about 4-6 inches and it's ok too. I'm in the process of making a rear roll pan that follows the curvature of both axis'...axes... horizontally and vertically. I may do the same for the front but I have one more idea to try first. I'll post it up if it works. Thanks for the compliment by the way Quote

My wife and I, often talk about going out to New Hampshire, to get our "barn find!" We almost bought a 70 Cutlass, out that way, some years ago! Mane one day..... I had to check google for an image, of what a 54 Windsor looks like. Is your a 2 or 4 door? I only come across 4doors on google! There were only a couple pics on there. That thing's got to be rare and I'm sure, no one makes repo panels and things! Do you have a link to pics of the ol 54? Quote
