55 Fargo Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Hi all, had Speedy Auto Glass mobile service come out and take out my back window in the parts car, and then install it into my Chrysler Coupe. I ordered the window rubber from Roberts, was impresssed with the delivery time, 5 days from East coast USA to Mid Western Canada. Any way the guy from speedy arrived, but only by himself, meaning I was his helper, we removed the old window in about 5 minutes, after the stainless trim was removed, he simply cut away the old rubber lip, the window was then pushed into the car, where I held it securely. the next step was tto place the rubber on the window and cut the rubber to size, this went well. We then installed it into the coupe, the draw string was already in place, I held the window in place and the installer pulled the string and the window went in slick. Now the fun began the stainless trim did not go in so easily, I had to end up grinding one end down a bit, as it would not go in other wise, not easy hanging on the back of the car with the window in place already, after playing with the trim for an hour, I climbed up on the back of my car, filed the edges of the trim, and joined the 2 ends together, slid over the short stainless piece, pushed it into the rubber and in she went. The intaller said good job, and he thanked me for helping him, and that he learned something today. He ended up being at my place for 2.5 hours, he even went back to the shop once to get a special tool. He only charged me $60.00 this included the price for the sealant he used, and I tried to give him a tip for coffee for his crew back at the shop, he declined, as he felt I did a lot of the work, glad it's in and over..........................Fred Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Thanks for sharing the experience. I am afraid I have to do the same job on my D24 custom sedan windshield in the summer coming. If I recall right, most of the people at the forum are recommending Roberts as best supplier of the windshield rubber seal? I am really uneasy to do this job; how on earth I am able to insert the stainless trim in the rubber so that it will look the same as originally? Glad to hear you got it right - there may be some hope for me as well... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Sounds like a fair deal to me...one less headache on the TO-DO list Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 Fred, glad that worked out OK. Those glass shop guys that have been around for a while seem to know their stuff. Now, on to more fun things. Quote
