54Illinois Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Right now I have two 218/230 blocks and the makings for two motors. The one I have in my 54 Plymouth now, was bought last year and runs fine. It has newer standard pistons and sounds great. I want to start selling parts to use the money to put into the car, but I am afraid something will break, then I will have to go out and search for it. Quote
claybill Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 same here.....i have a 230 ready to pop in,! just in case. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Just find a nice quiet corner of your garage, cover it up, and save it. Especially if it's in good condition and paid for. If you do ever need it, it will be so much more handy than having to go shopping for all that. That's my theory. I have a 50 Dodge motor (not in such good shape) that is on a small, home made roll around stand. It will inhabit some spot in the new garage. If I were to find a better engine, I might put it in place of the current one......which may (or may not) be a good motor to practice overhauling.....someday. Quote

I have had two stuck Plymouth engines (one is the original out of my Cambridge) for years. I have them on cut-down supermarket shopping carts for easy moving. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Rusty O'Toole Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 Doesn't everyone have spare motors? I have five, but one came in a handy 4 wheel carrying case called a 49 Chrysler sedan so now I guess I have 4 motors and 2 cars. With luck I will buy another one in a couple of days. Put them at the back of the garage, put a board on top, and you lose 4 square feet of floor space and gain 5 square feet of shelf space. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I would keep 1 on the side, these old mopars are being crushed faster ans faster, they will be gone real soon. Quote

oldodge41 Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I have a '50 Plymouth 218, a '41 Dodge 218, a '70 something 225 and a 70 something 360. I just last week built an a-frame over my Bilco door and lowered the '50 218 and the 225 slant into the basement to make room in the garage. The 260 is on a stand in a garage corner and the '41 motor is in my brothers storage shed. A guy can never have enough spare engines. Quote
