Bingster Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I have a '47 Desoto that needs a new glove box door lock. I see doors sold on ebay that have the lock but no key. Are keys easily made for these locks? Quote
james curl Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I have had all of my locks changed so that one key will lock every lock, I believe it originally used the same key as the trunk. When I bought my P-15 it came with two keys but that was 25 years ago and I do not remember which key fit which lock anymore. Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Glove box locks use the same key as the trunk at least in 49-52. Door and ignition use a different key. If you can find a locksmith he can fix your glove box lock to use your old trunk key. Or just carry 3 keys. Or, leave it unlocked and don't worry about a key. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Glove box latches on some P15 models did not have locks..... just a plain pushbutton. Personally, I have a key lock, but no key and don't worry about it. If someone wants in to my glovebox containing fairly worthless stuff, they won't have to pry it open and cause damage to find out what's there. (Kind of like not locking the doors on a convertible.) 48P15Annie Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Here's my $0.02... From all of my readings, the P15S Deluxe had the plain push button. The P15C Special Deluxe (what mine is) had the locking button. My glove box lock is different than the trunk. The GB key is small, resembles say a small file cabinet key. It's not the original key, it was cut on a Briggs & Stratton blank. Appears to be the original lock, though. Hope this could shed some light Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 My 39 deosot came with the keyedlocakable glovebox option. The standard was to have the plastic push button. I have purchased another lock mechanism for my car and since this is a sperate unit the keys are cut differently than the ignition and other locks. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
