Has anyone here removed there door hinges? I'm about to venture into that area and was wondering if anyone has some advice in that department? I have a impact socket tool with a phillips head screw driver on it. It's the type you strike with a hammer and rotates at the same time. Jon

Jon.

Before you loosen the hinges drill a 1\8" hole through the hinge and the door sill in each of them. When it comes time to reinstall the hinge tap a 16 penny nail into each hole. The nail will align the hinge screw holes so you don't need to rely on measurements or scratches in the paint..

Jon,

I removed the hinges by using a impact socket tool just like yours. There was some rust, but I prepared by spray of rust-off thin oil in to the threads from inside the door. The screws were tight but came off in one piece.

Randy's hint using a locator pin is useful - in case your doors are well aligned now. I had to aling the doors anyway - some previous owners had obviously messed with hinges...

The screws came out really easy and I adjusted the door to fit better. I was having problems with it closing and staying snug. I also installed a small shim plate behind the door striker? I think that is what that item is called? After almost 70 years of opening and closing the lock that rotates was work worn and by moving the striker plate out about 3/16" it allows that locking rotor to hits a new fresh surface and works just like new. Good little fix for doors that don't seem to lock quit right. Jon

I just removed all 4 hinges on my 50 Ply wagon. The pins were worn and needed to be changed. I can tell you the pins are 3/8"(.375") diameter. I actually got new ones from my local body shop supply. On the box it said.......fit 84 and up Chrysler,Dodge.

I used a impact driver to loosen up the philips heads but I got tapered allen head bolts to put back in. You can get them tighter than the philips. The local ACE hardware carries the tapered screws.
