a starter for 1953?

Is there a starter that can be used on a 1953 pilot house six cylinder that does NOT use the manual engage? a starter with a solonoid?

some industrial engines used an inertia drive starter, no solenoid or pedal. should be easy to get. combines and whatnot are a pretty good choice.

Funny, that's one of the things I like the most about our trucks. I wouldn't dream of changing it. Well I guess that's what makes horse races.

I too think that foot starter is one of the neat features that also helps with theft deterrance. The four speed stick and the clutch also adds to that.

When I took it in to have the radial tires added the kid couldn't make the key engage the starter. So I showed him how to start it. Then I watched while he tried to figure out how to make it move. One of the older fellows in the shop finally went over and drove it in for him.

I like the foot starter also but I wonder why 2/3's of the stroke is just to reach the starter. . . I may put a stub on my 'post'.

Can a starter from a car fit?

The foot starter on my '36 Plymouth has the same amount of travel as the one in the 52 truck, but has a completely different type of linkage. I like to mess with people when they're looking at my truck, and while talking to them through the window with both hands on the wheel just quietly step on the starter and have it start. I get some pretty puzzled looks! Mike
