Uncle-Pekka Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) A time machine would indeed be a nice business advantage for "import of hobby cars"... see at the end of the rainbow p.s. loads of interesting hi-quality photos in these pages - Thanks for sharing! Dan Hiebert Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 That's one of my favorite angles of our favorite era of cars, that I rarely get to see (duh). I have to admit that I'll pause pretty often to ogle and study the ol' Dodge from similar angles when I'm working on the roof for whatever reason. Thanks for posting! Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I just used that photo for my wallpaper - pretty cool. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 From Shorpy's http://www.shorpy.com/node/11713?size=_original I spot 5 Mopars...fairly new...now, where's that time machine? I think the "Wayback Machine" is in the lower right hand corner, sure looks like a '40 Plymouth coupe:) Quote
Mark D Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Fantastic image... thanks for sharing. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) I tried to recognize the cars... some easy, some a bit uncertain. Two of those I could not say - see #1 and #2 ??? #1 Coupe has fancy brightwork, should be easy to recognise #2 4D sedan has a two piece grille that could be lincoln or stude...? http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2630/1941lot.jpg' alt='1941lot.jpg'> [/img] Edited November 23, 2011 by Uncle-Pekka Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 I will answer to my own question... #1 is surely 1941 Oldsmobile and #2 looks like 1940 Studebaker. - Right? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Or.........#1 could be a Buick. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Yes... Buick, Pontiac & Olds shared the same body. However, Buick tail lights are vertical, Olds has horizontal like this one. Also the fender trim mouldings are different. This still looks more Olds to me. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 And the Plymouth is a '41. Tom Quote
pacerman Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 ? above the Chevy on the left side of the picture is a Nash. Joe Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 As far as I see there is not a single Nash in the picture...? Quote
old-idaho-iron Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 #2 is definately a 40 studebaker, and the car that is listed as a stude on top is actually a 40 mercury Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 -Two down from "shorpy"...the "Dodge - a mopar" car. She's not a plymouth, as I have one of those and the fenders don't have the same lines as mine - that one has clean sided fenders, but I believe she is a 40...not a dodge either....I'd bet she's a 40 chrysler{chrome trim strip on the hood and cowl vent}. -Lower R/H corner is a 40 plymouth...has the two fender lines like my sedan has. -Middle left behind the plymouth and under the tin indian torpedo...is that a 38 dodge sedan?...the license plate mount seems too high..or is it me? -the car right under "shorpy"...another pontiac sedan{trunk and hood trim strip} I love these old photos...Thanks! I've got one of downtown aurora here somewhere that's nothing but model As on either side of the road{RT31} as well as the old 3rd rail that ran thru town. Got one of my grandfather sitting on a finished repair/rehab of a 2-10-0 steam engine at the roundhouse where he worked, here in aurora. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 The silver{?} plymouth on the center left{under the 40 dodge}...single fender accent line over the wheel opening- 41. Lower R/H corner plymouth...dual fender accent lines over the wheel opening- 40. {maybe somebody already said those...I was too busy drooling over the car pic...still} Quote
B-Watson Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Notice the taillights on the 1938 "Dodge". It's a 1939 Chevrolet. ??? #2 is a 1941 Oldsmobile series 90 Custom Cruiser. Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Notice the taillights on the 1938 "Dodge". It's a 1939 Chevrolet. I did question the idea of it being a dodge...just wishfull thinking I guess. I thought I remembered a emblem should be where the plate is and the plate location seemed wrong too...now I see why- good eye sir. Quote
PatS.... Posted April 3, 2012 Author Report Posted April 3, 2012 And another...Des Moines, Iowa 1940 at least 2 Mopars http://www.shorpy.com/node/2300?size=_original Quote
