:confused:My 48 Plymouth four door sedan I have the gas guage says full when you start the car but then after a while it will go to 1/4 tank and move back and forth between 1/4 and a 1/2 tank. The tank is full so can anyone tell me what the matter is and why it is doing that way?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like maybe the problem is with the float.....have you checked it

to see what condition it's in......is it floating right??

Also, have you checked your connections on the back of the gauge to

make sure they're tight?

Just a couple preliminary guesses.

grounds are important..especially the sender to tank and tank to chassis..the way the sender is made the internal ground wiper could be corroded and giving you flakey reading also as this point is the first link to chassis ground as both legs of the gauge are common at this point....the manual has a excellent description and trouble shooting guide for this style sender..it can also be found doing a search here as the pages have been scanned and poster here before..
