RattlesnakeDaddy Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 any other idea where to buy (electic motor)? need it to get the car street legal Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I've never seen that particular model, myself. Is your original vacuum motor no longer working? You might try J.C. Whitney or JEGS for the electric replacement. You could also call the usual vendors most of us use and see if they can point you in the right direction. That would be Roberts Motor Parts, Andy Bernbaum, Kanter, Vintage Power Wagons, etc. Good luck. Quote
RattlesnakeDaddy Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Is your original vacuum motor no longer working it came without any motor. don´t know which parts are missing eventually, so my guess is, it is easier to switch to an electric motor.i did not find any electric motors except the newport stuff. my problem: i need it faaaaaast :-) Quote
james49ply Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I have the Newport wipers on my car, they work fantastic, no slowdown on acceleration, if yours was origionaly electric you would have wiring or a electric switch on dash, if vacuum you will have tube from intake manifold to the dash. get Newport you won't be sorry. Quote
RattlesnakeDaddy Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 thank you james 49ply. but, does it matter if original was electric or vacuum? i think originally it was a vacuum motor, but it seems that the tube is missing. so newport item number #NE4648MPR should be the right one? sorry for the questions, but before paying the shipping costs to germany i want to make shure it fits. hkestes41 Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 My Newport wipers work flawlessly. Would recommend them in a heart beat. Quote
RattlesnakeDaddy Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 i still don´t understand the difference between the motors: #NE4648MPR #NE4648MPRE is it really so importand if original was vacuum or electric? will the first item only work with original vacuum motor? do i need the second item only if the original radio is installed? i am really confused about the differences. From what I read the MPRE is for cars originally equipped with electric wipers. The other number is for original vacuum wipers. I think only Dodge came with electric and all Plymouths had vacuum wipers. I install this kit in my 47 Plymouth about 9 years ago. Works great, but it will not clear the stock radio. Quote
1941Rick Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I installed these on my 41 Ply......They sent me the wrong bracket as I have a radio.....when i phoned they were quick to offer me a replacement postage pre-paid and pre-paid return postage.....being a bit creative I solved the problem without needing the proper braket.....I simply rotated the motor so it was hanging vertical on the bracket. |This cleared the radio. Mine works great and would not be afraid to recommend Newport. Quote
steveplym Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I also would recommend these wipers in a heartbeat. They work great and it was a fairly easy install. I have read the two applications and the only difference I can see is as stated the factory electric option. Since you have the Plymouth I would order the first one. You can always call Newport and ask them. They should give you the right part # for your car. I ordered mine from a street rod parts dealer at a car show. All I gave them was my car info and they sent me the right one very quickly. They had to order it from Newport and have them mail it to me. After numerous fights with my vacuum wipers I am very happy with this setup. Quote
cwheel1975 Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 I think you'll need some original parts to make either work. They assume that you're removing an existing motor and they make one kit to replace an electric and one to replace a vacuum motor. If you don't have either, the first step might be to find out what parts you're missing and how much of the existing stuff you'll need (and I'm no help there as I'm still running vacuum wipers). RattlesnakeDaddy Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 thank you. i will give it a try. haha, new problem: as you can guess my car also does not have wiper arms and blades. i bought them at ebay but they´re lost in nirvana. now i have to search again. cwheel1975: linkage arms are under the dashboard. are there any more parts needed? Absolutely correct. What you get from Newport is basically just the motor and switch, wiring and some bushings to fit in the drive arms. You will have to have the drive arms that ran from the vacumn motor to the wiper towers. Without these arms there is nothing to connect the motor to the wiper towers. Quote
