Lou Earle Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Beginning to get 47 convert out to put rockers on(inner) noticed that was neg grounded. checked the amp meter gage- it reads correctly-or read- that is when discharging it is in neg zone and when charging in pos zone. Well me not leaving it alone switched to pos ground- The polarity in the battery is correct- but when hooked up is show a short- discharging to 35 amps (actually reads positive) So I put it back to pos ground and it still shorts( but reads 35 neg side. Di I blow out the voltage regulator. How ca I tell if someone actually switched this to neg ground system. I also noticed the coil is attached pos to ignition and neg to coil as if a neg ground system. Help!! Lou Quote
TodFitch Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Just hooking it up should not have blown out an old fashioned mechanical voltage regulator. If some one had substituted an electronic regulator or if there is some other device in the car with solid state components, they might have blown out and are now shorting. Quote
1just4don Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 sounds like you 'should' have some wiring 'stinking' or 'hot' if it is really discharging that much. Might check the gauge to see if it is working correctly and reading accurately. (dont ask me how to check tho). Turn on the key and feel around, regulator wires etc. Horn shorted out?? lights off? switch okay??Dome light wire??Lots of places to 'look' see. Quote
