RobertKB Posted August 21, 2011 Report Posted August 21, 2011 (edited) Did a 200 mile round trip today to a small town which has an incredible air museum and the centre piece is a WWII Lancaster bomber built in Canada and which saw service in Britain during the war. It sat outside for many years but is now inside and being worked on to at least get all four engines running. A few times a year it is pulled outside to run any operable engines. The Lancaster had four Merlin engines, the same engine as used in the Spitfire, Hurricane, and the P51 Mustang. The Merlins sounded fantastic as any big V12 engine will! Each engine produces 1280 horsepower. The two starboard engines are now working as can be seen in the first picture. Picture 2 shows the Lanc itself. Picture 3 shows the flight crew in WWII flight gear. I then went and did a tour of the interior of one of the few wooden elevators left in Alberta. Very interesting as seen in picture 4. Picture 5 shows two other elevators near the one I toured. Last pictures shows my '63 Ford Fairlane which I took on the trip. Not a flattie but still a sweet car. Anyway the pics.........
