GaryPrice Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 After spending five of the last seven weeks in Houston, I was finally able to get back to Northeast Tennessee and get the old Plymouth on the road. I left Houston at 6:30 Tuesday morning and got back home at 1:30 Wednesday morning, after a few stops along the way. I was bound and determined to make it to the local Friday night cruise-in last night. I put new, shorter steering arms on Wednesday night and bled the brakes last night. After a quick eyeball alignment job, I made it down to the cruise-in without any real issues. It needs an alignment really badly, and a couple of other things taken care of, but it runs good and sounds good. The body and interior are all stock. It has a 318 Magnum (carb conversion) with the original serpentine system, 904 tranny, 8.8" Explorer disk brake rear, floor mount power brake pedal assembly, 70's Mopar steel wheels, Cavalier rack and pinion, custom steering arms (Thanks to Jim in Atlanta), GM column with home fabbed cable shift bracket and B&M on the tranny end. It looks pretty stock, except for sitting quite a bit lower. The glass packs say otherwise though. Quote
GaryPrice Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 you and Terri. The reason I've been in Houston for my wife's cancer treatment. We're turning the corner on it. Still a ways to go, but we're encouraged. Certainly, the power of Prayer, faith, and support of loved ones cannot be understated. It's definitely a humbling experience. Quote
YukonJack Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Looks good, anymore pictures? Who made the shorter steering arms and what was the cost? Quote
oldodge41 Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Looks good and sounds like a nice package. Quote
GaryPrice Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Looks good, anymore pictures? Who made the shorter steering arms and what was the cost? I ran into a nice gentleman at a rod run in Knoxville who had a really nice P15 coupe. When I looked under it, I noticed the Cavalier rack. Then he told me about the steering arms and gave me the machinist's (he has a D24) contact info. They'd made four sets, the last of which I bought. He more or less made the four sets as a hobby. I will contact him and see if he'd be interested in making more. Out of respect for him, I won't post his contact info. They were $350 for the set. Quote
GaryPrice Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Here are some more pics of the outside. I don't have any recent ones of the engine bay, suspension, etc. Quote
Robert Horne Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Gary, when and where are the cruise-ins at Kingsport? I live in Abingdon, about an hour away. The Abingdon cruise-ins are on Saturday evenings, 6Pm to when ever, at the Majic Mart parking lot. Quote
GaryPrice Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 It's all informal. People just show up and park at the top of the parking K-Mart parking lot. On a nice night there's almost always a good crowd, 100 - 150 cars. I'll have to cruise up to Abingdon one Saturday. We usually go up to the Fly-In Cruise-In during the Highlands Festival. I Quote
RickD1973 Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Great looking car you've got there. Congratulations! Loving the colours. Rick Quote
littlemo Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Gary, did I miss it?? What year is your 318 Magnum ??? Did you need a special adapter plate to bolt the 904 AT to it?? I ask because I started with an 01 318/5.2L Magnum with a 46RE attached. I ran into so many issues that I was uncomfortable with the whole thing and I gave up on using it. I have instead, found an early 70's LA318 with 904 trans attached which I now plan on using in my 48 Plymouth. Are there any "tricks" you used in your install that might provide some guidance re. my original game plan with the 5.2L Magnum???? Quote
