Put the dual B+B's on, can really feel some of the other things I did to the motor now,i.e. shaved the head, bored .060 over, dual exhaust and mild cam. I got a throttle assembly from George Asche but the main rod was about 1/2 inch short. Made up a new one, not quite as nice as George's but it seems to work. I've been having a problem though with it returning to idle. It doesn't always drop right down like it should, sometimes I have to "kick" it down. Everyting seems to be moving smooth but I must be missing something. The other photo is of a led bar I got at autozone. It came with 2 bars actually,I took the one and hooked to the lights. Really looks good at night. Just thought I'd share... Quote
james49ply Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Hi, just my nickels worth (inflation), the return spring location that is on the throttle linkage gave me problems too, had to hook the spring to the carbthen down to a bracket below the carb, this cured the return to idle problem. I notice that you have red light in the nose piece, better check with the local laws, from my knowledge, red or blue lights on the front of a car constitutes impersonating a police vehicle. Amber, white and greenare ok. Quote

Don Coatney Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Two things. Hard to tell from your picture but is your return spring pulling on the throttle cable linkage not the foot feed? See the picture below. Also it appears you have a severe angle on the rod from the bell crank to the pivot axle. That may be why the original rod was too short. See the second picture below. Quote

I took your advice Don and straightened out the rod and put a ball joint end on instead of using a l-bend rod from the bell crank to the axis. That helped. The throttle return springs are on the foot feed part of the bell crank, as yours is. The rod that was too short was the one that the throttle levers run on. It goes through the carb base plates. The original would not quite make it to the second carb.Thanks again. Quote
greg g Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Check to make sure your high idle cam is dropping out of the way whe the choke/s are off. There is a small sheet metal ramp that wraps around the throttle shaft. The idle speed adjustment screw contacts to this. If it doesn't retract fully, the idle screw is retained in its high idle position. I had to resort to mechanics wire to keep mine out of the way. The set up looks good, have fun. Quote
