hillbilly4008 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 For some unknown reason the directionals on my '53 Desoto do not work. I traced all the wires and they all appear to be ok. (the harness on my car is in suprisingly good shape, no cob jobs, and everything works) Next I replaced the 6volt flasher with a new one from NAPA, still no flashing.(is there such a thing as a positive ground flasher, or are they all the same?) Then I crawled under the dash looking for a fuse, but have yet to find one. Does anyone have some advice? Is there a fuse that I am not seeing? I know that I am getting power to the bulbs because I do have brake lights. Quote
Big_John Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Are the front turn signals working? Check grounds, then check power at lights and work your way back to the switch. Quote
hillbilly4008 Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 I am not getting indicators on the dash either (not really sure if there are any) Is there a fuse? Quote
greg g Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 probably no fuse, only fuse on mine is at the headlamp switch, don't know how much they progressed in 6/8 years. Do your parking lamps work ?? Like all things 6V good grounds are essential, make sure each socket is in good shape. Also check to make sure that your bulbs are indexed properly. Since the bayonet lugs are not offset, its possible they are indexed 180 off. If so, the parking lamp element won't provide enough resistance for the flasher to work. Like when you have one bulb out the side may light the remaining bulb but not flash. Same deal especially if the rears are not lied up right also. and yes there are 6V flashers, I believe the number is 655. Quote
Big_John Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Should be a circuit breaker on the switch. Here's the wiring diagram for my Chrysler. It should be the same as yours. Quote
