Is there someone who rebuilds the seats for these cars to "like new" spec? I have sciatic nerve and lower back issues and I need a firm seat. I'd like to go back with my original seats but I'm afraid the springs are too soft and the seat would not be comfortable on long trips.

Thanks

if you bring it to any upholsterer - ask them to do an 8 way tie on the old springs - they will then wrap the springs in burlap and put a 2 inch firm foam over that - I did it to mine - and it made a big difference.

We did much the same on my D25 front seat cushion: friend Jerry removed the outer fabric and burlap covering, re-tied the springs with about 2" additional compression, added 2" firm upholstery foam, then re-installed the burlap and fabric.

The seat still looks basically stock but is much firmer with very little jiggle-N-bounce. A big improvement.

I think we did about the same thing to my "50 seats. They are not in the car yet, but just sitting on the bottom part seems like they will be PLENTY stiff.

I'm not sure about how to improve the springs, but any good upholstery supply shop should be able to help you with the springs. I plan on doing some mild custom seat upholstery, adding some minor side bolsters to the back and bottom of the bench seat for a little added support but keeping it where it isn't noticeable until you sit down. The foam padding in the seat isn't very difficult to work with, electric bread cutter works well, just shave small bits off until you get the thickness and shape you want.

Thanks guys! I'll likely have a go at it when I get to that stage. I really want keep it traditional. It just looks right.............even though it's a hot rod.
