greg g Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 Fred if you have and old needle and seat, put it back in and see if it makes any difference. I have read on several forums where some of the pieces in these kits coming from whoknowshere are mismatched. So the needle doesn't fit the seat, and does not seal correctly. Or have you checked to see if there is any dirt or debris within the assembly keeping it from closing tightly. Quote

Thanx Greg, I do not have the old needle and seat, this carb was rebuilt about 4 years, there was zero debris aorund the needle and seat, and when I pulled the needle out, I heard and air whoosh, indicating a seal. I have no idea if I have solved this problem or not, it is good and warm here today, will go for a ride, and seat what happens. I suppose I will have some issues, once the thermometer reaches the 90 mark outside, and it gets good and hot under the hood. Touch wood, the engine runs well, accelerates very good, and idles nice most of the time. I hope I have resloved the problem, but am not 100% convinced....Thanx for adding to this thread Quote
55 Fargo Posted June 4, 2011 Author Report Posted June 4, 2011 Went for a drive early this evening, maybe 25miles or so, mostly highway, outside temp 75, engine temp 160 all the way, shut here off twice, she started both times without flooding, but on the 2nd re-start, she needed to be cranked over twice. I can see this may be an issue at hotter outside temps, on 80-95 degree days, where under hood temps will soar, we shall see. Thanx all who have tried to help.....Fred Quote
greg g Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 what is your hot start procedure??? I believe the owners manual (at least for P15's) calls for 1/2 to 1/2 throttle open whie cranking. No pumps just slowly open the throttle, hold it open and then engage the starter. How many miles since you checked your point??? Quote
