azmichael1 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I recently started the project of sound deadening my '48 P-15 when I realized that there is an opening in the firewall where the steering column and shifter come through into the engine compartment that is supposed to have a cover plate, but it's not there..............if anyone happens to have one they would like to sell, I would sure like to buy it...............otherwise the rest of the project is pretty useless. Young Ed Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Are you missing the actual steel plate or the rubber grommet for the bottom of the column? Quote
azmichael1 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 I do have the grommet that fits at the end of the steering column and shifter........ I need the metal cover plate that goes over the opening in the engine compartment side of the firewall. Thanks for any help ! Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) I believe I've got one. I'll send a PM Edited March 9, 2011 by Young Ed add picture Quote
azmichael1 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 I did figure out how to access private messages after all ........unfortunately the part in the picture isn't what I need.......the one I need has two openings (with grommets,I think) where the steering column and shifter come through. I sure appreciate your time and help! Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 The two openings are in the giant removable floor panel. This bolts in directly above those openings. Quote
azmichael1 Posted March 9, 2011 Author Report Posted March 9, 2011 I see what you mean. apparently somewhere along the line someone has spot welded those plates together (probably thought it was a good idea at the time) so they aren't removable any more and metal was added to cover the openings from the inside. Niel Hoback Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 The piece you are showing was an interesting find on my p-15 when I removed it some years ago. To my surprise, the back side of it was woodgrained like the dash! Apparently, it's a punch out of the dash from the instruments go or the glove box opening. Quote
