Joe Flanagan Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 I was going to install the beveled washer that goes behind the crank pulley and was wondering if there are any specs on the way it's installed. I know the concave side faces out. I assume it shouldn't contact the timing chain cover, since it spins. I put it on once and never had any problem with it. Didn't see anything in the manual about it. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks, Jim. Any idea what that thing does? Quote
Alshere59 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) Oil slinger I believe. I thought they went behind the crank gear though on engines without the tube to lube the timing chain. Is there another? Edited March 3, 2011 by Alshere59 Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 I have the tube that lubricates the timing chain. I used parts from two engines to make one good one, so maybe this got thrown into the mix somewhere along the line. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 Just looked at the exploded diagram of the engine in the manual and that washer is not shown. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 I did a little research and found out that the washer is in fact an oil slinger and that it is installed as Jim shows. It also serves as a deflector to keep oil away from the timing chain cover gasket and reduce the chance of leaks. In case anyone was wondering. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I dont recall installing that slinger on my engine either. Quote
aero3113 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I think it is only for engines without the oiler tube. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Just as long as the timing chain gets oil that is all that matters...Wining:) It looks like your getting closer Joe. I can't get Charlie out of my head. They said he was bi-polar Charlies says I'm Bi- wining. I'm wining over here and there, you got to love it. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 Hey! He's winning whichever way you look at it! Except if you're not Charlie Sheen. Then it really looks like losing. "Bi-winning." That has to be the word of the year. Quote
