NiftyFifty Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Hey Gents, Now that it seems I have a motor lined up, I'm still pondering dropping that 4 speed for a T-5 and giving myself a lot better trans then that non synchro dodge one. My question is, my driveshaft is VERY long on this truck and actually had to have a few inches added to put my jeep yj rear diff in...has anyone with the 1 ton and the long box found a better solution for the driveshaft in the form of a 2 piece? It would be nice to just go to the wrecker and start measuring, but out wrecker isn't one that works that works well with guys just "searching" so it would be nice to know where to start. Also, can anyone point me in the direction of that kit to mount the T-5 to the stock bell housing, and I'm guessing you just use the stock dodge clutch? Thanks guys...time to start buying parts in prep for spring! Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 I'd look at 1/2 long box extended cab pickups for starters. They probably come with two piece driveshafts and might even bolt up to a Dana rear. Quote
4852dodge Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Talk to a local truck garage, they should be able to point you to a vendor that makes driveshafts to order. I did this when I put a 340 w/747 auto and 8 3/4 rear in a DeSoto years ago. Quote

Oh we have a shop that makes drive shafts, but it cost me about $300 just to have a few inches added...I knwo in some areas that would be a deal..LMAO..but not for a truck drive shaft He quoted me about $1000+ to do a 2 piece shaft...heck I paid $400 for the truck! NiftyFifty Posted February 28, 2011 Author Report Posted February 28, 2011 I asked the shop I used to work at to measure up some trucks for me, and my old boss has a pretty wide selection of old shafts from wrecking a lot of cars and trucks, so I hope I should find something to fit. Anyone on here know where to buy that kit for converting to a T-5? Quote
