Boydoggie Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 The end of My grill brackets land on the nose of the truck. It 's metal to metal so it will scratch and squeek. The brackets have little holes at the ends, so I wonder if something goes there to cushion it. My truck came without a grill and the parts I have were in bad shape, so I don't know how it's supposed to go. I know a lot of you folks have installed alot grills and know how to work it. It is a 49 three bar grill, here is a picture of the bracket. Thanks for any help. Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Looks a lot to me like a couple of poor spot welds but don't qoute me. Look similar to the hood stiffeners and how they're attached. Quote
JBNeal Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I'm not for sure what them holes were for, they're on the stainless bars as well as the painted bars. My only guess is that they were used in the forming process of the brackets. It is metal-to-metal contact on the stainless bars & the painted bars. I'm gonna try putting a 1/16" bead of black RTV on the back of the bars and let it cure to make a gasket. Or use some old inner tubes and cut small strips bonded to the back of the bars with rubber cement. Quote
Boydoggie Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Thanks for your reply 49 Dodge 1 ton. Now I know thats the way it goes. I'm going to make some kind of gasket too. Boyd Quote
