Don Coatney Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 JC Whitney eleven buck five inch outside rear view mirrors today. No road test yet but they appear to offer up a good bit of extra visibility compaired to my old mirrors. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Don, I've had a pair of those JC Whitney mirrors on my coupe since I bought it in 1995. Work great. I'm scouting around for regular door mount side mirrors now. May end up with the JC Whitney ones for that too. Keep looking for a nice pair at the swaps but can never find a pair of the kind I like. Always just one, so never buy it. Afraid if I bought just one, I'd never find the mate. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I found this mirror somewhere......have no idea what it originally went to..... looks pretty good. Works ok, but needs to be out just a little farther, to see better around the bulge in side of the car. I would use a door edge clip on but door is too close to the cowl because of prior accident damage....so not enough space to accomodate the clip part. Quote
47heaven Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Don...I bought the same pair from J.C Whitney a couple of weeks ago and I think they look pretty cool, plus they work great. I had some peep mirrors that I got off of Ebay that were supposed to be like the originals, but the only thing is that they didn't adjust without almost tweeking the back part of the mirror. Quote
John Mulders Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Don, looks good, my mirrors look the same but are rusty. Tried to lookup JC Whitney in Miami. FL but came up empty handed (google). Thought JC Whitney is a franchise type of chain that would have shops all over the US? Will have a stay over in Miami in April so was thinking I may have time to visit one. Otherwise just have to try another car shop that I can find. John Quote

Whitney is a mail order house and they do not have stores. There original warehouse is in Chicago. Google J.C. Whitney without a specific location and you can find there on line catalogue. That is how I bought my mirrors. Quote

I had to do so with my mirrors. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 John, here is JC Whitney's web site. http://www.jcwhitney.com If you can't find the mirrors there, call them. Telephone number should be on the site someplace. If they don't ship out of the country, maybe you can ship to the place in Florida that you visit all the time. Darin, Don't know about Don, but I did not have to bend my brackets to make them fit the door. They do have the set screws on the back side. Plus, I also cut a rubber gasket to fit inside my bracket out of an old inner tube. As mentioned, I have the JC Whitney mirrors too. Quote
47heaven Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Norm and Don...let me refrase that. What I meant to say is that with the peep mirrors I had trouble adjusting the mirror portion because it wouldn't swivel where the arm connected with the mirror in back. I couldn't adjust them in and out correctly so that I could see what was behind me. They rotate or something, but never good enough to get the correct adjustment. The JC mirrors swivel well and are very adjustable because they have the three screws in the back for tightening and losening. I did have to squeeze the mounting bracket with plyers a bit so that the little screws wouldn't go through when I tightened them. I think they look pretty close to period correct, even though I've never seen what the original P15 side mirrors looked like. This is the guy that sells the exact mirrors I was talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/36-37-38-39-40-41-42-47-48-49-50-51-52-Plymouth-Mirrors_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34204QQitemZ280095635776QQrdZ1 Quote
captden29 Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 i had to put the clip on"s on my 54 windsor convertible as the stock mirrors are almost useless. now between the two mirrors i almost get a good view, but it looks good with the both of them. i just bought one clip on that the seller said came off a 54 NYer and it telescopes out like the kind you put on pick-ups when towing a trailer. anyone know if this was an option in those years? dennis Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 JC Whitney must have changed suppliers for their Peep Mirrors. Here's the one's I bought from them about 1995 or 96. As you can see there are no screws in the back and I also did not have to bend the clip. I did make a rubber pad for them out of an old inner tube. If you look closely, you can see that in the picture too. I do not have any problems adjusting these either. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 Dennis, I think they did make a rectantular shaped mirror that was fairly small, like size to use on a car, that the shaft would telescope. Probably was for pulling a trailer originally. Quote
