One more question on the door window. I got the wind wing gasket, and division bar rubber from steele. The wind wing gasket fits well and seems really nice. However I am not sure how to install the division bar gasket. (this is the bar that is on the front part of the widow, where the wind wing rest on when closed). My original window division bar has a "fuzzy" strip rivited to the bar in 3 places. What steele sent is a piece of rubber that is split. It is the correct width to fit in the division bar. I suppose to intall it I take out the old weather seal, and glue this rubber gasket in place. Is that correct? My other question is I don't know which way it would go. Has any one installed the steele division bar gasket? I sent them and email and asked for help and they haven't responded other than to say they would respond. I called and the guy I talked to didn't know either. Like I said the gasket has a split in it, one side is thicker than the other. I know my discription isn't very good. I hope someone has used it and can help me.

PS I thought a diagram might help. Attached is my artistic version of the cross section. The rubber is about 1/2 in wide and fits down in the recessed area of the division bar well. As you can see one side is flat and thicker than the other side which is curved and thinner.

I played around with that same thing when I redid my windows. I finally found a way for it to lay into the channel and look right. Unforutnetly I don't have a picture of it to show you right now. If nobody else can help you I'll get out to the garage and try to get one.

Thanks Merle, the guy at Steele wasn't much help. He said it should be obvious which way it goes. I felt like telling him if it was obvious I wouldn't need to ask. Anyway, I started looking around in the Resoration Specialties catalog and they have a "Right Angle Division Bar Filler" that has the same measurements (at least the angle parts) as the piece I took off the division bar. The only thing I am not sure of is the depth of the "fuzzy" part. Mine has none of the fuzzy part left, so I don't know what it looked like. They also have the correct size rivets. It is only $8.50 so I think I will try that. I have laid the Steele rubber in the four possible directions that it can go in the division bar and it seems to go in one way better that the others. If the RS part doesn't work, then I will use the steele rubber. The window turned into more of a project than I thought it would.

If you have a piece of the original Division Bar trim/filler, call Restoration Specialties and let them know you want to have them match what you have to what they have available in inventory.

They will accommodate you. I have dealt with Todd at RS.

My original concerns with matching what I had in my car for window run channel and division bar channel were the same as yours......dimensions. I was reminded and finally accepted the fact what I have is 60 + years old and has weathered, worn, and fell apart so 100% accurate measurements are near impossible.

They should be able to help you and allay your concerns.

If you find something more correct please let us know here. I really don't like the seal from Steele. It works, but doesn't look correct. If you find something better I'll be tempted to change mine.

I purchased my division bar seal from Steele and I also had a hard time figuring out how to install. I kept trying to install it backwards (the open end of the "V" towards the wing window) then after a bit of trial and error, and the help of my brother-in-law, finally figured it out.

Here's a few pictures of it installed. Hopefully this helps.

It look to me like the "V" should face forward too. Thanks so much for the pictures, that really helps. I am curious to see what Restorations Specialties Division Bar strip looks like, it should arrive this week. I will let you all know how it looks.

Attached are some pictures of the Division Bar material I got from Restoration Specialties (RS). I haven't painted my Division Bar yet, but I laid the material in the ivision Bar, and drilled the holes and inserted, but not set, the rivets so I could take pictures for you all to see. It looks to me like this is close to the original material. You can see the piece I took off has a sharper 90 degree bend than the new piece, but the new piece fits well from what I can tell.

I had also order some material from RS to do the division bar that is inside the door, but when I got it it was only 2.5 inches wide, not the 2 7/8 listed in their catalog, after talking with the guy on the phone, he said why don't I just send him the division bar and they will rebuild it. I didn't know RS did that kind of work, in any event I sent it to them and will let you all know how it looks

One other thing, the division bar material, and the original, have one side a litlle wider than the other. When I put the new material in, it seemed to fit better installed opposite the way it came out (Wider side where the shorter side was originally). It looks really good to me and looks like the wind wing will fit properly when closed.

That looks more like the original division bar seal that I removed from mine (not sure if it was the original, but probably was). The Steele seal I used works, but I like the felt 'L' channel better. Let us know how it works for you.

Also, I replaced my wing window gaskets with Steele gaskets, and they just don't seem to want to seal tight to the bottom "curved" portion of the wing window. Seems like there's not enough of a "flap" sticking out. Have you experienced that?

I will let you know about the seal on the division bar. I haven't put my wind wings back in, I have the seal on the frames, but haven't put them back in the doors yet. I know this much however they fit will be 100 times better than the old ones with the cracks, breaks, and hard rubber.:) It did look to me like they might be tough to get to seal real well, but I will let you know

Ditto on mine.

Thanks Merle, must be the nature of the design.

I was worried that I didn't install it right, but it's pretty straight forward.

I tried adjusting the wing window more forward, (with the very little adjustment we have), still won't seal properly.

I have been watching your 'division bar' thread with great interest as I am up to that stage with one of my trucks. I have bought a few items from over your way from Andy Bernbaum and see that he has the 'A-381 L-shaped division bar fuzzy' (so he calls them) listed for $15 per pair. I have noticed from various threads that most people seem to shop at Steele's. I have had no problems with other items that I have bought from Bernbaum's and I think that his prices are quite reasonable, but am I shopping in the right place?

I have purchased things from Steele and Roberts maninly, with a couple other companies thrown in for good measure. So far Steele and Roberts have been great. I haven't purchased from Bernbaum yet.

I think that I had my own question answered re preferred suppliers today. Can anybody give me the part number/s for the vent division fuzzy bits from Steele or Restoration Specialists?

Thanks for the info DollyDodge. I'll get on to RS. The felt in my 51 truck is held in place with an 'L' shaped bar which has fold-over tabs on the rear. It didn't have the rivets like your truck, although my 48 truck did have the rivets???

Some of our Oz trucks seem to have come with chromed vent window frames. I bought the right side vent window NOS (still in the waxed paper in the original box), so I had to make the left side up the same. I think they have come up alright. It is hard to tell which was the NOS one now.

Some times you wonder if they just didn't use handy parts they had, there doesn't always seem to be consistency within years. The one thing about the part from RS is it won't have any tabs, it is just a "L" shaped fuzzy, I had to drill holes in it for the rivets, which RS also had.

I was in Australia a few years ago for a conference in SA, then spent time in Queensland with friends, and attended another conference in Charlieville. I only had two weeks and it wasn't enough. Everyone was so nice to me and went out of their way to make my visit memorable. My friends lived in the suburbs of Brisbane, I forget the community name, (they live in WA now), their old home got completely submerged in the recent floods. when I was at thier house the bats were in town, it was the coolest thing, I never saw so many bats at one time.

Anyway, great memeories for me.
