Rodney Bullock Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I got some pin holes in my tank and need to know how I can repair these pin holes.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/mr1940/IMG_0199.jpg Quote
greg g Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I don't think there is enough material around the holes to effect a good patch. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Looks like you would have to cut out a lot of it and weld in new metal. I would just go with a new tank. Cost would probably be about the same if you had the patch work done. Quote
Fireball Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Are the new tanks available somewhere? Is the design same in Dodges let's say from 30's to 50's for example? One possible solution for this particular tank might be to get it completely coated with fiberglass, if welding is not an option. So outside coated with fiberglass first, and inside with POR tank sealer. Quote
james curl Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I put a fiberglass patch on the bottom of the gas tank in my 55 Cheverlot pick up 25 years ago and the tank is in the cab. I drive the pick up daily and the fiberglass patch is still holding. Quote
Fireball Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 That's nice to hear James. I know this method somewhat sounds like "TV shop" material, but it actually works OK in real life Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 I've done the fiberglass repair successfully sever times too. NAPA also sells an epoxy gas tank patching kit that works. Quote

You might try cleaning the area up and putting the fiberglass patch over the holes that you can see. Then use paint designed to seal the inside of the tank like the one I posted awhile back. This paint creates a tough inner liner for your tank. If the area that is rusted out is quite thin you might need to find a new tank.. See link for the gas tank repair. My tank is fine now and working great. http://www.chetscoins.com/1948p15/20045/09182005.htm Chet… Quote

I loved the way it worked and that everything I needed was all there in 1 box. It was called KBS Coatings Auto Fuel Tank Repair Kit. I found it at this site www.cleanclassicautoparts.com , for under $ 60.00 too! Let me know how much you like it , OK? Quote
