JerseyHarold Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Yes they were sure lucky to find that jewelery:rolleyes: all I ever find is an old roach clip or something like that. I do go to car actions and sometimes people just walk away from there cars and you can really tell that by the junk left behind. Now go to an impound auction different story! some cars there are real deals as the owners got picked up for a DWI and his car got towed away to the impound lot. And at these actions you can't hear the car start up but you can usually tell that the rig was running up to the time the poor bastard got thrown in jail and his car impounded. Look at the back window and usually there is some type of code showing it was a DWI car. Jon I've been to a lot of impound auctions also and, in my experience, the cars are pawed-over fairly thoroughly by the police or government agency before the auction. Once in a while you can still find good/neat stuff that was overlooked. At the County Auction here a few years ago, the Prosecutor's Office sold a car that still had drugs and ammunition in it. After that incident, they check every forfeited vehicle very carefully before selling it. Quote
Charlie Olson Posted January 30, 2011 Author Report Posted January 30, 2011 If ever any of you ever travel to the PHX area and would like to visit both of the DVAP yards; PHX & Casa Grande (where most of the pre 70's vehicles are stored), I would be happy to go with you, as it is always a fun way to spend some time. Charlie Olson Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Well, before the Boo Birds start squawking about what they didn't like about tonight's show (2-2-2011), I thought I would make a few comments about some of the local collector car lore in tonight's episode. Snakes - in the 15+ trips I have made to the DVAP yards, I have never seen a snake; however, we usually tap on the cars before we crawl into or under them. The crews at the yards pull all of the parts, but sometimes you need to look under and into a car, to see if it has what you need. McClure's private yard is full of neat, unusual cars that you can see through the chain link gate - I didn't know it was his private collection, until tonight's show. So far, they are only showing the PHX yard, where the post 50's cars are stored. The Casa Grande yard is where the older iron is kept. Speedworld is a great place to attend the drags and car shows; NW PHX area. I drove right by the Firebird Raceway, where the two 442's had their father/son sorta race, today, on my way to a four hour Doo Wop/Rock & Roll concert, at the Ak-Chin Casino, in Maricopa, put on by http://www.timeandtimeagainentertainment.com/. Really great live songs from my younger days. This area has a very active Rockabilly music/car show crowd and I always get a lot of period dressed young people using PLYWOOD for photos when I attend. Nothing like a group of tattooed girls with bobby socks and polka dot skirts standing by your car for photos. The couple they showed tonight look and live like they did on the show everyday; it is an honest life style for them. We have a lot of private car collections/museums in the Valley of the Sun. So far, I have been lucky enough to see 12 of them. These first two episodes were evidently shot last Spring, because of all of the green desert plant life. BobT-47P15 Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 At least they made some profit on the 442 they rejuvenated. On the one hand, it's good that they re-do these cars as opposed to parting them out. I noticed in one shot at the auction sale a fellow running his hand around under the edge of the left front wheel opening, presumably checking for body filler or rust. They seemed to make the two cars (the T Bird and the 442) pretty nice. Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Ooow i got to watch this one! i have restored at least 20 442's over the years, this ought to be good! Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Great episode. I was very entertained and didn't know about the his or hers shifter that could be ordered in a 442. I do think the rattlers were planted in the car for a little excitement. Thanks Charlie for the heads up on this series. Quote
dezeldoc Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Ya know if their was not so much made up drama and bs it could be a nice show. To portray that nice yard like that is a shame. That car was so wrong it was not even funny, i am not even going to pick it apart. Quote
