Fireball Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Hi So here it is as promised, my '46 that is currently in shipping container sailing over Atlantic to Finland, takes at least for a month still. I bought it from Illinois, drivetrain is all original and some minor customisation is done to the appearance as you can see. Will be very exiting to get it home and see what did I actually bought:) It should be pretty much driveable, but I have plenty of plans already. BTW. Must be the prettiest front bumber I've ever seen put in a veteran like this... Quote
Guest 50Plymouth Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Congratulations and welcome. I'm sure you'll be counting the days, send some interior shots later. Ryan Quote
bob westphal Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Looks great! You gotta love those MoPar dash boards! Sorry to say I don't like the scollups but that's my problem. Have lots of fun with this one! Quote
Fireball Posted March 17, 2007 Author Report Posted March 17, 2007 No worries bob, I wouldn't paint them either if I'd be doing it over, but hey, ladies buy cars by color, I don't... I definately agree with the dash, I might have to learn how to do woodgrain. Does it say Fluidrive on the right hand corner tag? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Well, I like the car as is. Did that car come from Volo, in Illinois? The storage/showroom looks just like it. Quote
Fireball Posted March 17, 2007 Author Report Posted March 17, 2007 Country Classic cars in Staunton was the seller Quote
thedahmer Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 that is about 1 1/2 hours from the house-- I have seen it before- Quote
Jeff.P_46 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Need to find an original front bumper for your new ride to replace that late model one. Jeff Quote
47heaven Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Jeff...looks like you still might be able to save it. Get that ugly 80's paint off of it and find a nice, orginal color...that's if you are restoring it to original and get the original tail lights back on. Also, get rid of the cheap-looking upholstery. Do that and you'll have a real nice ride. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I like some of the mods, especially the rear end. Those 3 window coupes are really neat. It would be nice to carry that rolled rear pan styling to the front end too. I'd change out the gear shift knob and gas pedal. Especially the gas pedal. It would make a good garage wall hanger. Quote

Norm...I didn't know that you were that partial to mods. I mean, judging by your car, I would have never guessed. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Definitely has some of the retro touches, such as gearshift knob. Pretty cool, actually.......all in all a neat looking car. Probably not any just like in your home area. What engine does it have? By leaving the stainless trim on the car and painting it, it gives some definition between top and bottom. Better than removing it all. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Another Finn with a D24 at the Forum - Great! Congratulations Fireball! The car is just great and what Finland deserves! (I wrote a brief history of Finnish economy after the war here in the Forum. Even if I am partly joking with this subject, I still am a bit sorry we never got the handsome bulbous cars of the forties to Finland at the time) Another story is, that finns hardly ever bought the business coupes, that unfortunately applies on the 30's as well. I guess the number of passanger was the key at the time... You also got a stylish sun visor & fender skirts in the coupe. I trust you are going to keep those on? My Dodge is already in Finland, but not yet at home. Incidently, this Custom sedan was also imported from Illinois: I bought it from a gentleman in LaGrange, very close to Chicago (is it counted as a suburb?) Please find a pic of my sedan as attached - Let's keep the Dodges rolling under the Northern Lights! P.S. There is yet another D24 (a Club Coupe) which was imported in autumn 2006 to Finland, nearby Tampere. It is currently being restored to high standard. The owner has done A LOT OF WORK under the winter, the car will be completed by summer... Quote
Fireball Posted March 19, 2007 Author Report Posted March 19, 2007 Thank's for the comments everybody. The engine is original flatty, it's running but the shipper told me that fuelpump is fault, I believe it is rust coming out of the tank. I already ordered new pump from Rockauto, and will do both when it arrives, pump and tank + new lines, just to be sure for future. Not too many of these in Finland for sure, although there's one red 48 club coupe just 5 miles from my house. It's solid and has been in shows in Finland. I will definately keep the mild custom touch, that's the way I am. If you guys are interested, you can have a look of my previous rides on this page: Fireballs collection Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 You have some good looking rides. Dennis:cool: Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I just looked at that front bumper a bit more..with the vinyl trim removed it loses it original looks but could very well be a Volare/Aspen front bumper. It does conform to the car real nice.. Quote
Guest BusinessC Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Have to tell that I bought my 47 Business Coupe in Rovanemi, Finland late in 2005 and brought it back home to Norway. Have been cruising it a lot and had a lot of fun. Keep on......... Quote
Fireball Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hi BusinessC, we were just discussing this saturday in our Club that where did the coupe from Rovaniemi disappear, now we know. Small world... Your car looks fantastic, where in Norway do you live? Quote
Guest BusinessC Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Fireball, I live in Trondheim. Since I bought the car I have upgraded it with radial tires and 12V. I find it more driveable that way. Have also bought a little camper for it, so this winter a trailer-hinge has been added to the car. Hope you will have your car road-ready to have some fun this summer. I guess you are right about your fuel-problems - dirt from the tank ruin your pump. Quote
47heaven Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 Yeah Business C...that is a nice looking car. That's how they should look...all original. Now all you need to do is paint "taxi" on it and put some black checkers and you'll be set...LOL! Quote
Fireball Posted March 21, 2007 Author Report Posted March 21, 2007 BusinessC you have made quite a trip from Trondheim to Rovaniemi to pick your puppy up. I also wish to spend many kilometers behind the wheel of my '46, depends ofcourse of the true condition of it which I don't know yet. All I have so far is the "salesman talk" that perhaps wasn't the whole truth about the car It's always an huge risk to buy these without seeing, but I'm mentally prepared for the worst, what's bad will be fixed, simple right? Gladly I have other MoPars for cruising if this one needs more TLC from the day one. Heaven fortyseven, I'm all original so my car doesn't have to be:D Quote
