Same reason the trans input brg retainer fits snugly into the bellhousing. I was going to suggest making some from bolts but now don't need to. Go to any decent fastener supplier and buy the correct dowels....Vintage Power Wagons probably has them. Even old transmissions require correct alignment. dontknowitall Posted October 24, 2010 Author Report Share Posted October 24, 2010 The bolt /shank was les then .03 mil out form the original correct measurment, and I think they are put in there to keep the movement between the belhousing and the block to a minimum.
