Specialdeluxe47 Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I saw a Over Drive Trans for sale on ebay that fits 40'sto 50's. They have it for sale for $999.00. Do you guys think it is worth it? and what kind of mods do would you have to do the add says you can use your existing drive shaft. What do you think? Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I bought one completely rebuilt from George Asche for less than that. Do a search for George Asche and you'll find his info here on the forum somewhere. Here's one in the classifieds ads on the Plymouth Bulletin for $200.00. http://plymouthbulletin.com/noahsclassifieds/list/12 Quote
michael.warshaw Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 mr asche sells hiss trannys for about 1400 im not sure if the one on ebay is the one that is right for a p15 cause the one i bought from george asche looked very different. here is the one i bought. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) Needs to be the R10 model from the 50s, I believe. I think there's an older model, the R7, but don't think that one works in a P15. The one mentioned on ebay says from a 52 Plymouth, which should make it an R10. It appears the seller is including a lockout cable, a relay, and kickdown switch in the deal, which is even a bit better. Edited September 16, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote

suntennis Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I think the R-10 model differs in one area from the earlier model in that it has the speedometer drive connection on the drivers side. Quote
Specialdeluxe47 Posted September 17, 2010 Author Report Posted September 17, 2010 So it sounds like you guys think it is too risky and to expensive. Do you guys think that installing an Overdrive is a good ideal or leave my 47 sedan original? Quote
steveplym Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 The overdrive is an excellent idea. Once you put it in you will notice a much more driveable car, especially at higher speeds. I can drive my car at 55mph now and don't have to listen to the engine scream. Also helps out with gas mileage too. I have the '52 plymouth version of the R-10 in my sedan and I love it. It was worth every penny. Quote
blueskies Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 I think the R-10 model differs in one area from the earlier model in that it has the speedometer drive connection on the drivers side. The R-10 differs from the earlier R-7 in more ways than the speedo cable... The primary difference is that the R-7 does not have the governor which controls the OD automatically, engauging and dis-engauging the OD electric controls at about 28 mph. Pete Quote
