p15estep Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 hi, i have a 1947 plymouth with good drums and maybe good brake pads but i can not get the drums to come off and i don't want to break anything trying to remove them, what is the secret to getting these brake drums off. thanks Quote
bob_amos Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 To remove the rears you will need a special tool. It is a very heavy duty puller and is activated using a large sledge hammer. They are on real tight. In the past we have discussed many ways to remove them and a search of the archives will lead you to some of these. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Check with your nearest rental center and they usually will have one. This is no big special tool made just for removing brake drums but can be used for various task in the industrial world. I rented my hub puller and I think it was around 15 dollars a day or so. Good luck:) Jon Quote
oldmopar Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 There is a great amount of information on this site not just the forum. Go to the link for Brake information at http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/wipbrakeframeset.html Quote
Don St Peter Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 By experience and for safety sake LEAVE the axle nut loosely engaged on the threads so the drum does not fly off at 100MPH when it comes loose. Don Quote
