OT Cable Driven Tach bouncing, jumping and sticking

Anybody familiar with cable driven Tachs. Talking Motorcycle here, mine started acting up, cleaned and lubed the cable, no change. So might this just be a case of dirt or debris between the rotating magnet and the needle?

Never been inside one before, was gonna play around but thought I'd pick all yawl's brains before taking it apart. Really have nothing to loos as I removed it because the needle movent was distracting, hasn't been on for a year.

Greg,

That same thing happens with the speedo on our P15's. Remove the cable if it's on there, then drop about 2 or 3 drops of 3 in 1 oil or graphite into the hole. Let it stand a little, then find a screwdriver that fits where the cable goes. Then just turn the screwdriver to move the needle. Can also use a driver bit on the drill. Just keep flipping it that way until it operates smoothly. Should be all that's needed. The speedo on my P15 did that when I first bought it. That's how I fixed it.

Don,

Don't know, it was cruising so nice and smooth I was just enjoying the ride and was not paying any attention to the speedo at all. Guess I'm lucky I didn't get stopped for speeding.:D
