Cpt.Fred Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 1940 P10 2door sedan: is the lock cyl in the fuel filler cap the same as on the passenger door and ignition lock? only different key is for the trunk? my old key i lost a few weeks ago worked with the 3 mentioned above. so, if i would walk to the locksmith with my filler cap and let him fabricate a new key, it would work with the ignition, too...? 1940plymouth Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Fred, I would say the the locking gas cap key would be different from the ignition key as the locking gas cap was an accessory. My ignition key for the '40 fits only the door, while I have a different key for the trunk lock. Good luck, Bob Quote
greg g Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 my locking gas cap is and after market deal with its own key that fits nothig else on the car. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 darn... the cap worked so nicely with the old key i could have sworn it would be factory... Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted August 15, 2010 Author Report Posted August 15, 2010 just took a picture, to be sure about this whole thing. there were no factory lockable gas filler caps available, looking like this? then i have to try other ways to get my lock cyls out of the car... picking doesn't work, i seem to be too clumsy for that. maybe take out the whole iginition switch unit and take it to the locksmith.
