John Burke Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Since I am spucing up the Desoto powered hot rod I decided to fabricate a new exhaust to replace the hurry-up one I had on there before. I bought some mandrel bends and a megaphone frome speedways along with a kick-out and some bolt on flanges. It took a lot of trial and error to get it this far but now it is all tacked together and is ready to come off for final weldup. I will bolt the header plates to a heavy bar while welding to keep them from warping out of position. Next it goes to the powder coater. We have a guy here who coats all of Speedways header assemblies. It polishes out just like chrome...Pictures of that when i get it back. Notice the "suppository" style muffler that gets shoved up the tapered pipe before the kickout is bolted on...more to come, John Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Looks good, I bet it hurts when they shove that suppository in. LOL It will look great when they finish with the powder coating. Dennis:D Quote
bob westphal Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Is the suppository hollow? I've always wondered how noisy that type of system is. Will look pretty cool!! Quote
John Burke Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 Is the suppository hollow? I've always wondered how noisy that type of system is. Will look pretty cool!! I had one like it in the old exhaust....you could hear it coming from about 1.5 miles away...sounded neat...John Quote
Guest rockabillybassman Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Hey, looks good John. Here in New Zealand, they've just introduced legislation requiring exhausts to be under 95db. When they tested a bunch of brand new cars, they found some were too noisy straight from the factory!!! Anothe gubmint cock-up!! Does powder coating last better than chrome? Quote
John Burke Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 due to more stringent laws, the quality of chrome plating is not what it used to be...it is more prone to blueing, rusting and chipping.....there are special hi-temp powder coatings for such applications as i am using..a variety of colors is available and the "silver" is realllllly close to chrome...any way...come spring in a month or 2 I will be able to report back...John Quote
greg g Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Supository Muffler.....now I know a guy at work that one of those might work for. Do you suppose they work on Methan powered exhaust???????? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Greg....I thought a biiig cork or a corn cob, plus a medium size hammer might work. Quote
John Burke Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 Hey guy's, my Unkle's doctor told him..." It is extremly healthy to flatuate"...just before he died.....John Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Hey guy's, my Unkle's doctor told him..." It is extremly healthy to flatuate"...just before he died.....John Sorry to hear of the doctors death. Was he overcome by fumes? Quote
John Burke Posted March 10, 2007 Author Report Posted March 10, 2007 I guess I really meant to infer that my Uncle died after he got the OK to go ahead with it...John Quote
