I am trying to make decisions here, as my car is for sale but may not be for long. My front fenders have been permanently attached to the rest of the front end. I am having no luck finding any A/C stuff for the flathead, so I am contimplating puting either a 318 or a small block chevy in it. How do the fenders come off??? does anyone have any illistrations? I am going to have to cut, but would atleast like to be on the lines as not not mess it up. Does anyone have any extra 41 Plymouth body parts? maybe I will cut it off and have a whole nother front end to go on???

Hit me with ideas thought and illistrations. I even thought about a 1 piece tilt hood?

If your front fenders are attached permanently I would just pull the front clip. Its not that hard and you wont wreck your paint job that way. You'll need to pull the whole clip to put a v8 in.

well I am not that attached to the paint job. I did buy almost a whole front clip today. I only need the inner fenders or splash pans if you will, and 1 fender, I think the right side... I am looking and I am not sure where the attach points are since it is all smooth. when the new parts come, I am going to star measureing. Then use chaulk to out line where I think the seams are, and perhaps bolt holes???

How have the fenders been attached?.........originally they bolt on with bolts spaced about every 6-8" accessable from under the fender with captive nuts on the panel that goes up against the hood, the inner fender panel is held onto the line of bolts by some, think about every 2nd one going thru to the hood panel.........now if its had some "customising" it would be worth checking how the fenders have been attached, if you can't see the seam from the outside then there must have been some filler or putty used to cover the seam........which would have either been welded or brazed up then puttied over..........it might be worthwhile seeing if you can remove the putty either by grinding or gentle use of an oxy torch to heat the putty then scrape it off.....anyway how is the front sheetmetal attached at present?..........andyd........btw any pics?.....andyd.

I see what your saying. The fenders were put on when the car was originally built. There was some rust, and what the previous owner did was braze or weld the fender and cowl and transition piece together. So the front end is one piece minus the hood. The hood stands alone. I actually thought about turning into a tilt front end. but I think it would be to heavy. I cannot find anyone who makes a 1 pc fiberglass tilt hood.

I have ordered most parts from places around the US. Presently I am short the Right fender, and both inner fenders. I am debating on whether I need inner fenders. But they may be good to have incase it rains while I am cruizin.

I will try to attach picture of my external front end.

O/k........firstly, the grille thats there is actually the stock sheetmetal onto which the stainless strips attach.....what they have done is a fairly common trick, they leave all the stainless strips off and tidy up the actual sheetmetal pressings which is whats been done..........from the looks of it it would be a LOT of work to "restore" the current sheetmetal to its original configeration............finding the stock sheetmetal and then removing the fenders at the cowl would be the best, but whatever way you do this its a lot of work.........where are you?.........obviously in the USA but whats your phone number.........I talk better than I type.........I don't mind giving you a call.........btw whats your name........me?........i'm Andy Douglas.......andyd

I am in Ohio... I am Mike. I did buy the left fender, and the transition pieces that go between the hood, and the fender. I also bought the piece that goes uo the middle to the hood, and covers the lower section by the bumper, and goes out to the fenders.... I do not have the left fender yet. I bought the sheet metal off a 41 Kingsway, which is supposed to be a rebadge Plymouth. I am waiting for its arival, so I can see what works and what doesnt. I am hoping it all works, then I need 1 right fender, and I am set....

The reason I bought the pieces is, I dont want to take off the front end, land up ruining it, and then have a car with out access to a reasonably priced front clip. Who knows, mine may come off and be fine? But I did not do the original body work, and I am not sure what I am getting my self into. I am also not fond of the flames.... It is traditional old school, but it is what it is....
