Guest oilspots Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I am thinking about moving the Battery on my P-15 Coupe into the trunk to clear up some space under the hood. Does anyone know if this will work on my 6 volt positive ground system? If so will I need to run the + ground cable from the trunk battery all of the way back to the engine compartment to be grounded near the starter or could it be grounded to the frame in back of the car? I have found a local shop that will make me some 00 cables. I also have a new battery with the most cranking amps that I could find. I have seen the battery in the trunk on a lot of 12 volt cars. Plymouthy Adams Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 You are increasing the potential for voltage drop..be sure to go heavier gauge cable..the negative will have to run the entire distance..the postive to ground can be a short cable from battery to a very good clean chassis ground. Then up near the engine you can ground the engine with a heavy ground cable to the chassis there. Also run a good ground strap for the accessories on the vehicle between the now new chassis forward ground point and body or the engine and body so as to prevent any ground feedback. Its gets nasty when a heavy current seeking device is searching for ground.. Quote
martybose Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 If you change to a 6V Optima battery, you can remove the original battery tray and put the Optima on top of the left fender shelf. Makes a lot of room for alternators, etc. I'd have to look, but I might even have the battery holddown setup I used for my 6V Optima, before I converted to 12V. Marty Quote
grey beard Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 OR .. . . . . . You could use TWO Optima batteries in parallel. That would give you killer CCA - would probably crank it till the radiator boiled over on a cool day, AND It would give you 12 volts for any accessories you might wish to add later, AND The two Optimas will take up the same space as your present group II 6-volt battery. Such a deal . . . . . . :) Quote
